In Bruges!
September 8th, 2008
Summary
Marloes and I attended the wedding party of John and Rafael at the lovely Castle Tudor in Bruges, Belgium. The fete was very well organized and fun as well, with a surprise Brazilian carnival dancer and a modern dance performance. The food was sumptuous and the drinks flowed freely. Staying in the regal castle provided grand atmosphere to the event - it was definitely a unique place to stay.

This dapper fellow chatted with Marloes and the time flew by... errr... |
Needless to say, the reveling went on until the wee hours. A good time was had by the many guests who flow in from all over the world to attend this event. The next day, although John and Rafael were understandably busy and tired, we got a chance to sit down with them and chat over croissants and coffee. This was our advantage from being late risers ;-)
Before returning to pick-up Lucky, our growing boxer puppy, we spent an hour wandering around the amazing medieval streets of Bruges. I stopped in the Bier Palijs and the Bier Temple, two choice spots for finding rare Belgian beers and associated tchotchkies. In addition to being known for fine beer, Bruges hosted many Belgian chocolate and lace purveyors, in addition to enough layers of historical background and architecture to make one's head swim. |
| Unfortunately our time was all too brief and before long we had to hot foot it to the train station. It was a pleasure to walk around Bruges, even for a brief time (and even in the rain!), and we resolved to return. |
